‘There’s like this little voice in my head that says just go for it because it’s something you like, something you want. I just told myself, I’m going to do it. The discouragements that I heard from my colleagues around me didn’t matter… If you know you are competent and you can do the job, you should try.’

 

Q. When did you last step out of your comfort zone and try something new? What factors prevent you from taking the next step in your career, and how can you overcome these barriers?

‘I just approached the founder of The Filipino Nurses Association, and I know and admire his work, so I basically just asked him can you be my mentor? Very straightforward. You’re not going to get it if you don’t ask, and he was, of course, surprised, but he liked that about me, and he agreed to coach me through the whole interview and job application process.’
