What is Building Healthier Teams?

Building Healthier Teams is a brand new programme for first line leaders across UHB that will take our connections, relationships and impact as a team to a whole new level. We’re going to share your stories, hear from the unsung heroes who are really making something happen and take the very best bits of everything we’re doing across the Trust so you can try them out in your own role, with your team and in support of our patients.

What do you want me to do?

As a programme, Building Healthier Teams is different. Often, the messages you might get on a programme are instructional. The idea is for everyone to follow them; we all do the same thing, then we move on to the next priority.

With Building Healthier Teams, we want to create content that will inspire and help you, but you’re in control. With 2,000 Band 3-6 managers across the Trust, what works for one person might not always work for another. This is a network – it’s like having 2,000 colleagues on your shoulder every day, supporting you, helping you and making a few suggestions that will help you with your own team and patients.

Check back in regularly, dive into the pieces of content that look most interesting. As with everything in life, the more you put in, the more you’ll get out of it… and it’s not just about clinical activity – across 2,000 people, there are many different job roles and teams that keep the whole thing going. We’re going to be telling stories from as many of them as possible.

Why are we doing this?

Why are we doing this?

When an organisation is structured the way UHB is, a first line manager’s role is critical. Your leadership drives everything – it sets the tone and momentum for what happens in your team and beyond.

How you think, what you do and your behaviour as a leader marks a starting point for the way your team operates… and your people follow it. What the people in your team do and how they work then creates the experience that patients and their families have when they have contact with the Trust and, it‘s that bit that they’ll remember.

When you think about it that way, what you do, your people do… and what your people do, people right across this region are talking about. So it starts with you, ends with you and everything that happens in between is because of you, and now you can see why we keep saying how important you are!

How often do you send stuff out, and what is it?

Think about it like this – it’s like a YouTube channel or Instagram feed that you subscribe to – every week, there’ll be new things to read, watch or think about and you get to choose what you interact with. As we said before, some stuff will resonate with you and other things might not – that’s okay.

  • Nudges are due to go out every week – they’re bitesize performance prompts, 2 minutes of your time
  • Episodes will go out once a fortnight or thereabouts – these are 5-10 minute stories and sometimes supporting workbooks or content
  • Masterclasses or Podcasts will be going out every quarter as they’re a longer form 20 minute plus piece of content which require more of your time
  • External Content will be getting updated all the time with new and interesting articles. We’ll aim to land 6-8 piece each month and they’re all varying lengths and formats, so use them as you see fit
