1. OFFER COLLEAGUES SUPPORT
‘I’ve come into my first supervisory role a long way into my career and I’m still a little bit daunted by it. I think we all suffer a little bit from lack of confidence when we come into a new role, a message that I’d like to give to more experienced managers, is when you know you’ve got an inexperienced manager coming into a role a lot more pre support would be good.’

Q. Who’s new to the role in your team or department? What can you do as a leader in UHB to support them?.

2. Shift Perspectives
‘I’ve been one of the team for the last eight years, I’ve worked alongside all the guys and we could always find a complaint about a supervisor or a team leader. Saying… oh they’re not providing this, they’re not providing that (…) Now on the other side, I am on the end of that phone and I’ve realised how difficult it really is. One of the things that I felt pleased about was the possibility that I could actually now actually try and resolve things that I’d complain about previously.’

Q. What lessons have you learnt from your previous manager/boss?
