‘I don’t think any senior [colleague], including myself, wants someone to turn into a mini version of that person. You are you. Let your personality come through.’

 

Q. What have you learnt about leadership from observing others? How can you use these observations to develop your own unique leadership style?

2. SEEK FEEDBACK
‘I think the first thing I learnt to do very early on is to seek feedback. I think it can be very scary asking for feedback. It can always be a bit unnerving, particularly if you know you’re not doing quite as well at something… Be proactive. The worst thing you can do is sit back and sit still.’

 

Q. When did you last ask for feedback? Are there any specific areas you feel you need to develop?

3. Lead with the positives
‘I don’t focus on the negatives. Make sure you put positive feedback in there… lead with the positives, and I think you’ll engage better with whoever you’re supervising.’
